From the first garden until now, we have been called to bring the world’s potential into service. We believe ownership is how that calling grows: capitalism at its best, shared widely, multiplying good. A world where more people own what they build and spend their lives bringing beauty into it.

God is the first Creator. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” A few verses later He makes people in His own image and gives them dominion over the earth. [1] If we are made in the image of a Creator, then all of us can create.

That matters more now than ever. As AI gets better at work with clear right and wrong answers, it’s our moment to lean into what is most human: seeing, connecting, and making new things. Steve Jobs put it simply: “Creativity is just connecting things.” [2] Creativity needs two things: real experiences, and the time to think about them. We can’t help having experiences. We can choose to reflect on them.

If we were made to create, the question is what we build with that gift. Orrow is our answer.

The opportunity

We see three openings, and each one is good news.

A generation of builders ready to pass on what they made. In Canada, 61% of small and mid-sized businesses are run by owners aged 50 and older, and nearly 1 in 5 plan to exit within five years, a shift BDC says represents more than $300B in revenue over the next five years. [3] Among owners planning to sell or transfer soon, most say it is very important to keep a presence in their community and protect their employees. [4] That is a once-in-a-generation chance to carry good businesses, built over lifetimes, into their next chapter with the people and places that made them.

Room for a different kind of partner. The usual playbook often runs on a short clock. We see the chance to do it differently, because a business is people, not parts, and good ones are built to last, not to flip. We’re built to hold for the long run, keep the owner’s name on the door, invest in the people who already do the work, and measure success by whether the business is stronger in twenty years. Owners who care about their legacy are looking for exactly that kind of partner.

New tools that give owners their time back. AI is changing how every business runs. For an owner-run business, that is a gift: the same tools that once needed a big company’s budget are now within reach. Built into how the work actually gets done, they give people time back for what only people can do.

What we’re building

Orrow is a creative ownership partner. We partner with owner-run businesses, take a real stake in them, and help them grow. Owners can keep running their business for as long as they want.

Orrow Partners. This is the heart of Orrow: a family of businesses across sectors and sizes that help each other grow. AI is going to change how we work, and with it, how we analyze a business. We won’t just analyze cash flows. We’ll spend our time on what doesn’t show up in the books: walking the floor, learning the owner’s story, and understanding the culture. As intelligence gets cheap, character and culture matter more. We look for owners and leaders who want to do right by their people and have been able to foster a culture of curiosity and excellence. When an owner is ready to step back, we help find a successor of good character, ideally from inside the business, and help them learn what they need to lead. We work alongside each partner to rebuild how the business runs with AI, so they have more time to think about where it is going.

Orrow Academy. Every technological shift changes work. Some jobs go away and new ones appear that didn’t exist before. Orrow Academy teaches on the job. It gives people whose work has changed a way to learn new skills and find a home inside our partner businesses, and it gives the next generation real experience while they learn. We want people to find where their gifts lead them.

Orrow Studio. Once we have a strong family of businesses and a deep bench of people, Orrow Studio is where we will start new ventures from the ideas and talent around us, aiming at real problems worth solving. Our desire is to create more entrepreneurs who are willing to take a risk on their convictions.

Around all three is the Orrow community: the owners, builders, and readers who gather, learn, and think alongside us. Because we own a piece of the businesses we serve, every partner who joins makes all of us more useful to each other.

Why it matters

We believe work was good from the beginning, and that good work lasts. N.T. Wright puts it this way: “What you do in the present, by painting, preaching, singing, sewing, praying, teaching, building hospitals, digging wells, campaigning for justice, writing poems, caring for the needy, loving your neighbor as yourself, will last into God’s future.” [5]

That is why Orrow exists. We are trying to help build a world where more people own what they build and spend their lives bringing beauty into it.

If you own a business and this sounds like the partner you’ve been hoping for, we’d love to hear from you through orrow.ai/contact. And if you just want to think alongside us about ownership and building, subscribe.
